As part of its efforts to inspire aspiring Built Environment (BE) professionals, the practice actively engages with local and overseas academic institutions, including the visit from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) School of Architecture and Design. Led by our associate director Adelina Jaya and DP Architects’ senior associate Ar. Frederick Low, the session shared key project case studies, including Bukit Canberra, a large-scale community, sports and lifestyle hub that adopts biophilic urbanism and regenerative design principles; and The Greenhouse at Dulwich College (Singapore), the first net-zero private institutional building under the Green Mark 2021 scheme in Singapore.
Delving into the range of sustainable strategies employed in these projects, such as natural ventilation study using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), rainwater harvesting, daylighting and other energy-efficient strategies, the session offered a comprehensive understanding of the practice’s multidisciplinary approach and systems-based thinking to sustainable design. At the same time, the adoption of performance-based, climate-responsive design in these key projects provided deeper insights into long-term sustainable operation, particularly in KMUTT’s current pursuit of institutional decarbonisation. The session saw active contributions from the students in the discussions around environmentally conscious design beyond the reduction of carbon emissions, guiding them towards a more regenerative understanding of sustainability.
