Completed in 2022, Perennial Business City is the first to achieve the BCA Green Mark Platinum – Super Low Energy (SLE) certification in Jurong Lake District. Our sustainable design strategies were devised to support its overall scheme, which was driven by the vision to create a new vibrant, sustainability-forward and wellbeing-centred workplace that offers versatility of use, accessibility to facilities and services, and efficiency in operations.

Working in close collaboration with the client, the outcomes have been exemplary. Early-stage analysis of site and climatic conditions as well as advanced building simulations and energy modelling enabled us to pinpoint and implement active and passive strategies that were key to reducing energy consumption by more than 40% and for the provision of renewable energy. In fact, over 1,900 solar panels were installed on the rooftop of the development. This amounts to approximately 4,900 sqm of net photovoltaic area and some 1,200 MWh of renewable energy harvested annually, which equates to powering about 300 four-room flats. Simultaneously, the installation of energy-efficient systems and smart sensors is complemented by the retrofitting of a centralised chilled-water system and maintenance contract of at least 3 years by EPC firms with guaranteed efficiency of 0.54 kW/RT. The latter two, procured based on performance, considers the building’s long-term life cycle and and ensures that it maintains strong standards of operational sustainability.

Sustainability meets workplace wellbeing in the design of the Privately Owned Public Space (POPS), inclusive of a three-storey atrium that connects the development to surrounding amenities and infrastructure. Here, we carried out thorough Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis to ascertain and optimise its spatial design for maximum natural ventilation and occupants’ comfort. Adding to end-user wellbeing, extensive greenery—such as a large rooftop garden, vertical greenery, sky terrace and landscape courtyards—has been interwoven into the entire development. They serve as delightful break-out spaces, offer visual relief and enhance the site’s biodiversity.

Implicitly, Perennial Business City also encourages its occupants towards eco-consciousness. This is encapsulated in its provision of electric vehicle charging stations in its carpark—one that is the largest number installed in a single business park in Singapore to date.
